Homemade Izze

We have a bit of an obsession for Izzes at our house. They started making Izzes in Colorado about the same time we moved there and we were instantly hooked. We got a little spoiled to at the availability of Izze in Colorado too.

When we moved, we found the flavors and varieties were very limited in the stores here. We missed our favorite drink. While creating the book, Seven Years of Plenty, I discovered a recipe that came close to making homemade Izze.

Inspired by a popular drink from South America, this is a refreshing alternative when we don't have our favorite Izze on hand. It is optional to add the fizz, you can just enjoy it as a fresh fruit drink.

Fresh Fruit Drink

2 cups fruit (pineapple, mango, berries), diced
2 lemons, juice
2 cups cold water or ice
4 T. sugar
1 cup crushed ice

Place all ingredients in a blender. Mix well. Add more sugar to taste. Drain seeds, if desired. Add your favorite sparkling beverage, (or fresca) for a drink that is almost like Izze:)
