Stories of Survival

There have been many stories of survival with the recent severe weather. In Alabama 14 people and a Great Dane survived the tornado in an old Bus partially buried in the side of a hill. The man said he knew they had to do something more to prepare after the storms of 1994. He got an old bus, a back hoe, and covered it with dirt.

They had a supply of water, food, and supplies. Up to 60 people could fit in it as needed. They spent 6 hours in the bus riding out the storm. What improvements would he make for next time? More dirt on top of the bus! When asked about the van buried in the side of the hill down the street he said, “That’s my brother Larry. He couldn’t get a bus, so he used a van.” (NPR May 27th, 2011)
