Essential Kitchen Gadgets

Flat bread and tortillas can be a challenge to get to the right thickness with just a rolling pin. I was reading the cookbook "Ad Hoc" by Thomas Keller and he had the best idea! He suggested using a pasta machine when making flat bread. It has several different settings for thickness and uses no electricity.

A second essential kitchen gadget is the mortar and pestle. There may be faster ways to pulverize food, but the Mortar and Pestle is tried and true. It says something about this product to have this ancient kitchen tool even still available! It is excellent at crushing whole spices, salt, grains, nuts. It is only second to the rock for grinding grains to prepare to make bread. This is a wonderful kitchen gadget.

For those who don't want to grind all of their wheat by hand but don't want to jump right into a expensive wheat grinder, try the Cuisinart Spice and Nut Grinder. It is inexpensive, easy to store, and can grind up whole spices, salt, grains, and nuts also.

Effective kitchen tools are important in being able to use our basic foods.
These are a few ideas for you to add to your essential kitchen gadgets!
